• Wildfires are gaining in frequency and intensity, and the number of people directly impacted by destructive wildfires is rising. By 2054, experts expect that more than 125 million Americans will be exposed to at least one day of dangerous air quality each year—a 50 percent increase over 2023, which itself was a remarkably bad year. This predicted jump has dire health implications. PM 2.5, the kind of pollution that wildfire smoke emits, was found to have caused over 50,000 premature deaths and over $400 billion dollar of economic losses from 2008-2018, just in California.

Carbon dioxide emissions from forest fires have surged by 60% globally since 2001, and almost tripled in some of the most climate-sensitive northern boreal forests. Climate scientists warn that increasingly frequent and intense wildfires have undone decades of air quality improvement while releasing unprecedented amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Mitigating emissions from catastrophic wildfires is one of the largest opportunities we have to protect our climate.

  • Research has shown that a 15 minute reduction in wildfire response times could reduce the frequency of large uncontained fires between three and seven percent and generate $3.5 - $8.2 billion in economic benefits for the state of California alone.

That’s where you come in. Join a nimble team of doers, working every day to bring autonomous rapid response to complement a host of burgeoning firetech ventures—from early detection aided by AI to autonomous robots that aid agencies performing prescribed burns.

  • Incrementalism has defined innovation for two decades, but not at Rain, where our team is committed to tackling the wildfire problem head on. We are creating essential infrastructure for billions of people to coexist with climate change today and in the future. We apply a diverse set of skills and backgrounds to bring our product to life and serve our community as quickly as possible, because wildfire won’t wait.

  • Some of the more unusual benefits you’ll enjoy as a Rain employee are areas for personal projects in our firehouse shop, the best view of San Francisco in the entire Bay and minimum time off.
